Christmas 2010 – Gibraltar

Gibraltar Post  has celebrated the Christmas 2010 by  issuing  a set of four stamps  feature the icons in related with the Christmas season, Christmas ornament, Santa Claus, Christmas stockings, and Snowman on November 16, 2010.




Christmas ornament as important part of Christmas tree may include bells, candles, candy canes, stockings, wreaths, and angels.The practice of putting up special decorations at Christmas has a long history and the Christmas tree is often explained as a Christianize of pagan tradition and ritual surrounding the Winter Solstice, which included the use of evergreen boughs, and an adaptation of pagan tree worship.

Christmas stockings are hung near the chimney on Christmas Eve for Santa Claus to fill it with goodies for the children. It is an empty sock or a bag that is given the shape of a sock.

The children in United States and some other countries have been following this tradition of hanging a Christmas stocking, believing that Father Christmas will fill it with sweets and gifts for them. The items that are believed to be stuffed in the Christmas stocking by Santa Claus are known as stocking stuffers.

The most famous and pervasive of these figures in modern celebration worldwide is Santa Claus, a mythical gift bringer, dressed in red, whose origins have diverse sources. Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas , Saint Nicholas . 



His feast on the 6th of December came to be celebrated in many countries with the giving of gifts. Saint Nicholas traditionally appeared in bishop attire, accompanied by helpers, and enquired about the behavior of children during the past year before deciding whether they deserved a gift or not.

Typical snowmen feature three large snowballs, and some additional accoutrements for facial and other features. Common accessories include branches for arms and a rudimentary smiley face; a carrot can stand in for a nose. 



Human clothing, such as hat or scarf may even be included.They are customarily built as part of a family project in celebration of winter . In some cases, participants in winter festivals or Christmas Time  will build large numbers of snowmen.
