The Holy Family (Christmas 2012 - Malta)

On 31st October 2012, Malta Post issued the Christmas 2012 stamp set which consists of three stamps depicting Old Master paintings representing The Holy Family. The stamps have a face value of 0.20, 0.37 and 0.63 reproducing those painting.

The 0.20 stamp present “The Adoration of the Magi”  by a German follower of Peter Paul Rubens.

The 0.37 stamp present   “The Holy Family”  by the Circle of Denys Calvaert (Antwerp 1540 - Bologna 1619)

The Holy Family is a Christian term for Jesus, the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph. Veneration of the Holy Family was formally begun in the 17th century by Blessed François de Laval, the first bishop of New France, who founded a Confraternity.

The 0.63 stamp present “The Holly Family” by the Dutch School .

 

The Feast of the Holy Family is a liturgical celebration in the Roman Catholic Church in honor of Jesus of Nazareth, his mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and his foster father, Saint Joseph, as a family. The Feast of the Holy Family is celebrated on the Sunday following Christmas, unless that Sunday is January 1st, in which case it is celebrated on December 30th.
